Engage with Your Children – In Some Cases, with Yourself as Well: Andreasyan on the Mrdzavan School Incident

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, has responded to the incidents that occurred at the Mrdzavan school. She notably wrote on her page: “In our families, most parents are raising their children with a rhetoric of violence, intolerance, and the law of the jungle. Every day, this rhetoric sends children to school, leaving schools alone to face issues of violence, intolerance, and aggression.

I am not exaggerating; there are numerous cases where schools alert parents about various problems their children are facing, only to meet total indifference. A significant portion of parents does not know what their child is engaged in, and it seems that they do not even want to know. This is compounded by the contemptuous attitude of some parents towards teachers, which reflects not only their own outlook but also the attitude they pass on to their children.

Adding to this is the superficiality and materialism present in our middle-class environment. Yes, schools have many problems, including the quality of teachers, their skills, and various other directions. But no one should ever treat a teacher the way participants in the widely circulated video did. Engage with your children, dear parents. In some cases, also engage with yourselves; there is no shame in education, shame lies in waving one’s own ignorance as a flag.”
