The Most Expensive Gift Ever Made to the U.S.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing to receive a royal jet from the Qatari royal family, a Boeing 747-8 aircraft, dubbed the "Flying Palace." Trump will have the ability to use this gift for as long as he remains in office. Sources familiar with the deal reported this to ABC News.
After Trump leaves office, the ownership of the aircraft will be transferred to the presidential library. The White House and the Justice Department have concluded that since the gift is not accompanied by any official act, it does not constitute a bribe.
The legal analysis by Attorney General Pam Bondi states that this does not violate the constitutional prohibition on foreign gifts, as the aircraft is being given not to a private individual, but to the Air Force of a country, and later to the presidential library.
According to the publication, the aircraft that Trump will receive is expected to be worth around $400 million, excluding additional equipment for secure communications. An announcement about the gift is expected to be made during Trump's trip to the Middle East on May 13.
