Serve 1 Month and Pay 20 Million Drams: Three Options for Mandatory Military Service
Hayk Sargsyan, a member of the Civil Contract faction, proposes providing options for citizens over 18 years old to choose their format of mandatory military service. He announced this during a press conference.
Currently, this option is available only to those who are over 27 years old and have avoided mandatory service.
According to Sargsyan, conscripts can select from the following three options: serve for 24 months and receive high financial support from the state, serve for 6 months and pay 15 million drams to the state budget, or serve for 1 month and pay 20 million drams to the state budget.
“As a result of these legislative changes, part of the additional financial resources will be directed toward increasing the monetary compensation for enlisted conscripts. Currently, enlisted soldiers with the rank of private receive a monthly compensation of 3,400 drams,” Sargsyan stated.
He also mentioned that part of the additional funds entering the state budget as a result of the changes is proposed to be directed toward increasing the monetary compensation for enlisted conscripts undergoing mandatory military service.
