EU Has Never Accepted Warring Countries, Says Orban

Ukrainian accession to the European Union would lead to all member states being dragged into military conflict with Russia. This warning was issued by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban during a conference of parliamentary speakers in Budapest.

“As a neighboring country to Ukraine, we believe that if Ukraine is admitted into the EU, then the EU will also be drawn into the war,” Orban stated. He reminded that the EU has never accepted warring countries into its fold.

Orban also expressed regret that the leaders of most European countries intend to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine. “We have a different opinion. We believe that the longer this war continues, the more lives will be lost,” he added.
