The New Pope of Rome on the Legacy of Pope Francis

The newly elected Pope Leo XIV of Rome has announced that he will continue the vision and reforms established by Pope Francis. This was reported by Reuters.

Pope Leo XIV told the cardinals that Pope Francis left a "valuable legacy" that must be continued. During his first meeting with all the cardinals, he urged senior clergy to reaffirm their commitment to the significant reforms adopted during the Vatican's Second Council in the 1960s.

Pope Leo XIV noted that overall, Pope Francis, who envisioned opening the church with 1.4 billion members to the modern world, has set an example of total dedication to service. "Let us take on this valuable legacy and continue our journey," the newly elected pope said to the cardinals.

The Conclave of Cardinals elected the 267th Pope of Rome on May 8. Pope Leo XIV succeeds Pope Francis, who died of a heart attack early on April 21 at his residence in Vatican's Santa Marta. The 88-year-old Pope Francis was buried on April 26.
