Food Prices Reach Record Highs in Gaza Strip
Recently, the World Food Programme of the United Nations released a report discussing the changes in food consumption levels and food prices in Gaza from September 2023 to early April 2025.
In September 2023, one kilogram of potatoes could be purchased for $2.5, which was more expensive than in many European countries. During the war, under limited humanitarian flows, potatoes were already selling for $18, but in the last week of the ceasefire, the price was about $7, taking into account the receipt of aid.
As soon as Israel closed off any humanitarian aid access to the region at the end of February 2025, the price of a sack of potatoes skyrocketed by 614%, reaching $50. If calculated from September 2023, the increase is a staggering 1900%.
