Amazon Launches First 27 Internet Satellites into Space

Amazon has launched its first 27 internet satellites as part of the Kuiper project. This was reported by the BBC.

According to reports, Amazon aims to compete with Elon Musk's SpaceX company and its Starlink system. The Atlas V rocket, developed by United Launch Alliance, was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Monday. The satellites have been placed into low Earth orbit at altitudes of 590, 610, and 630 kilometers.

In the coming years, Amazon plans to launch a total of 3,236 satellites into orbit, which will provide high-speed broadband internet at speeds of up to 400 Mbps, with future plans to reach speeds of up to 1 Gbps or more. The system will operate through 12 ground stations, establishing connections with users.

The Kuiper project aims to address the issue of the "digital divide" by providing accessible and quality internet in areas that remain outside the reach of traditional means of communication or have limited access.

Within the framework of the project, experimental satellites KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2 were also launched into orbit in October 2023. With this launch, Amazon enters direct competition not only with SpaceX's Starlink but also with other satellite internet projects.
