This statement harms peace negotiations with Russia, since Crimea was lost many years ago during President Barack Obama's term, and this is not even a topic for discussion. No one is asking Zelensky to recognize Crimea as Russian territory, but if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot fired. Statements like Zelensky’s are what make this war so difficult to resolve. He has nothing to brag about,” the US President said.

He added that the situation in Ukraine is horrific: “A person who is out of cards can either establish peace or fight for another 3 years until he loses the entire country. I have nothing to do with Russia, but I care about wanting to save an average of five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week who are dying for no reason,” he stated.
