Casualties and Injuries Reported Following Armed Attack in Kashmir

In Kashmir, under Indian control, armed individuals opened fire at one of the resorts, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 tourists, with over 30 more wounded, many of whom are in critical condition. Therefore, it is not ruled out that the death toll may rise, reports the Associated Press.

The police attribute the incident to militants fighting against the Indian authorities. According to law enforcement sources, at least four militants fired at dozens of tourists from close range. The majority of the deceased tourists were Indian.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Police and soldiers have been searching for the assailants.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has interrupted his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to New Delhi early Wednesday morning, according to the Press Trust of India news agency. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the attack in the strongest terms, emphasizing that “attacks on civilians are unacceptable under any circumstances.”
