Trump Comments on US-Iran Negotiations

US President Donald Trump has stated that the negotiations between the United States and Iran are progressing very well, but time is needed to understand what the outcome will be.

“We have had very good meetings regarding Iran. Let’s see what comes of this,” he told reporters at the White House and added, “The next step is that we need a little more time, but we are having very good meetings regarding Iran.”

On April 19, the second round of indirect negotiations aimed at resolving disagreements about Tehran's nuclear program took place in Rome, mediated by Oman. The US delegation was led by the Special Envoy of the US President, Steven Wittecoff, while Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif represented his country. Zarif and Wittecoff are scheduled to meet again on April 26.

Following the results of the second round, Oman's Foreign Ministry announced that the US and Iran are discussing an agreement that would allow the Islamic Republic to maintain the development of peaceful nuclear energy. The negotiations are expected to ensure Iran's commitment to abandoning nuclear weapons development and the lifting of imposed sanctions.
