Mother See Responds to Controversial Azerbaijani Event in the Vatican

On April 10, 2023, an event titled "Christianity in Azerbaijan: History and Modern Times" was held at the Gregorian University in Rome, organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy to the Holy See and several Azerbaijani organizations, with representatives from various countries attending.

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin responded to the anti-Armenian initiative organized by Azerbaijan in Rome stating, "During the event, once again, an attempt was made by the Azerbaijani propaganda machine to deny the Armenian ownership of the historical and cultural heritage of Armenia and Artsakh, distorting historical facts with malicious intent to appropriate them later. All of this is happening while the international community has yet to properly appreciate the genocidal actions carried out by Azerbaijan, the fundamental rights violations of the entire Armenian population forcibly displaced from Artsakh, the illegal and degrading actions against Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, and the cases of the appropriation of Artsakh's spiritual and cultural heritage and the complete destruction of Armenian traces."

"We regret that such an anti-scientific event has been allowed to be organized under the roof of a Catholic higher education institution. In this regard, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin will take necessary steps within the perceived framework of inter-church communication," the statement said.
