That Corresponds to the Interests of Armenia and Russia: Zakharova

In Kapan, there is multi-faceted certainty regarding the opening of the Russian consulate. We expect to reach specific agreements on the timeline for the consulate's opening by May. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a weekly press briefing.

“We are convinced that the consistent expansion of Russian presence in the strategically important region in the south of the Republic aligns with the long-term interests of both Armenia and Russia, as well as the region in general,” Zakharova said, noting that this move could provide a significant impetus for trade, investment, educational, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as establishing mutually beneficial ties with the regions of Russia.

The diplomat believes that stimulating the economic agenda between countries in Syunik becomes even more important within the framework of the EAEU, especially in light of the recent ratification of the free trade zone agreement with Iran. According to Zakharova, the opening of the Russian consulate will serve as reliable insurance for the dynamic, peaceful, and secure development of the Syunik region.
