Hovik Agazaryan and Taron Margaryan Stripped of Immunity

The members of the National Assembly, Hovik Agazaryan and Taron Margaryan, will face criminal prosecution. In a closed session, the majority of the Assembly voted in favor of the Prosecutor General's motion.

On March 26, Prosecutor General Anna Vardanyan presented a motion in the National Assembly for the criminal prosecution of Hovik Agazaryan, a former member of the ruling Civil Contract party, now an independent MP. The first instance of the criminal case states that Hovik Agazaryan promised to facilitate the export of agricultural animals in exchange for bribes and fake documents. The second instance involves a demand for a bribe of $23,000 and 300,000 drams from one Aram Mkrtchyan in order to demolish the dilapidated building of School No. 136 located in Ajapnyak and build a multi-apartment building in its place.

On March 27, Vardanyan also presented the motion for criminal prosecution against Taron Margaryan, a member of the “Honorary” faction. The former mayor of Yerevan is accused of illegally alienating the properties of two schools and a kindergarten and laundering money.

It should be noted that the opposition factions “Honorary” and “Armenia” boycotted and did not participate in today’s session of the National Assembly.
