Sargis Khandanian Proposes Meeting to Azerbaijani Counterpart
The Chairman of the National Assembly's Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations, Sargis Khandanian, has proposed a meeting between the committees of Armenia and Azerbaijan to the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Foreign Relations Committee.
“Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached an agreement on the draft of the agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, marking the completion of negotiations on the document. Recognizing our role as directly elected representatives responsible for defending the interests of our people, we understand that after the signing of the agreement, it must be ratified by the parliaments of both countries. As the Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee of Armenia, I have proposed to my counterpart, Samad Seyidov, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis Foreign and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of Azerbaijan, to hold a joint meeting of our committees.
This meeting would create an opportunity to exchange views on the draft peace agreement and the ratification process. Moreover, it would allow for discussions concerning the roles of parliaments in the peace process, fostering dialogue about the future of interparliamentary cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral parliamentary platforms. Such an initiative could complement other measures aimed at building trust between our countries and contribute to strengthening regional stability. I hope that my counterpart in the Milli Majlis will respond positively, and that we can agree on the date, venue, and other necessary details for the meeting. As a venue for our first meeting, we could consider a neutral location along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border,” wrote Khandanian on his social media page.
