Warning Issued to Avoid Mountain Visits
The Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center has issued a statement: "Dear citizens, due to the high temperatures currently observed in the Republic of Armenia and the effects of solar radiation, the snow masses in mountainous areas are beginning to actively melt. This increases their water content and mass, which consequently raises the probability of avalanches.
From March 11 to 18, a temperature rise of 6-10 degrees is expected throughout the republic, which will increase the likelihood of avalanche formation in steep mountain slopes in the mountainous and high-altitude areas of the republic (at elevations above 2500 meters).
For safety reasons, we urge you to avoid mountain visits," the statement noted.
