UN Calls Israeli Actions in Gaza Genocide
The United Nations has described the actions of Israel in the Gaza Strip, including the discontinuation of electricity supply and the continued provision of arms to the Jewish state, as genocide against the Palestinian people. This was stated by the UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese.
"The cessation of electricity supply to the Gaza Strip, among other things, means the shutdown of desalination plants, and therefore, the halt of clean water supply," she wrote on the X social media platform.
The Special Rapporteur also claims that those countries that support Israel by supplying weapons and endorsing its military actions against the enclave are complicit in the genocide of the Palestinian people.
The Israeli government ordered the suspension of electricity supply to the Gaza Strip the day before. Local media, commenting on the event, noted that the electricity supplied from Israel had only been used to power desalination facilities, while all other facilities were powered by generators. However, reporters have indicated that the enclave has not received fuel for those same generators for almost a week.
A few days ago, Israel also halted humanitarian aid supplies to the Gaza Strip. This was due to the refusal of the Hamas movement to accept a new ceasefire plan proposed by the U.S. President's Special Envoy, Stephen Vitkoff.
