Mass Strikes at 13 Airports in Germany
Today, a 24-hour warning strike has begun at Germany's largest airports. The German Ver.di union has called on airport operators, ground service employees, and aviation security personnel to walk out in protest. The union is demanding an 8% increase in wages, but not less than 350 euros per month, as well as an increase in bonuses for hard work and additional days off for employees.
In its statement, Ver.di said that the strike is necessary to "improve working conditions for about 25,000 employees." The strike will affect airports in Berlin-Brandenburg, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main, Hanover, Bremen, and Leipzig/Halle.
At the airports in Weeze and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, only aviation security personnel working at passenger, crew, cargo, and goods inspection areas, as well as in service departments, have been called to strike.
