No Trend of Backtracking: Khandanyan

Delaying the vote on the draft law concerning the "Launch of the Process of Armenia's Membership in the EU" is a purely technical matter. This was stated today, March 4, during a briefing with journalists at the National Assembly by the Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations, Sargis Khandanyan.

He explained, "This pertains to the legal technicalities of the draft. The government has made proposals, and yesterday it became clear that the proponents of the initiative were reluctant to accept these proposals. That is why the vote was suspended. In the future, it will resume until consensus is formed between us and the initiators."

Khandanyan emphasized that there is no intention to "backtrack" on the draft: "We are inclined to accept the project."

It is worth noting that the Permanent Committee on European Integration of the RA National Assembly held an extraordinary session to discuss the draft law on the "Launch of the Process of Armenia's Membership in the European Union" in its second reading. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Paruir Hovhannisyan, presenting the government's positive position, noted that the executive has several proposals regarding legal technicalities. The vote on the draft law has been postponed.
