Azerbaijan Responds to Turk's Statement on Armenians Held in Baku
“In order to achieve justice, it is necessary to hold accountable those accused or convicted of military crimes, ethnic cleansing, military aggression, torture, and other serious crimes,” said Ayhan Hacızade, spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, responding to the statement by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk regarding the immediate release of individuals of Armenian descent held in Azerbaijan.
“Only through uncovering the truth and eliminating the consequences of crimes can peace and reconciliation triumph over impunity,” Hacızade stated, according to Azerbaijani media.
It should be noted that on March 3, during the ongoing 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Volker Turk mentioned that he is following the peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and addressed the issue of all individuals held in Azerbaijan, including Armenians, stating that they must be released without delay, and their right to a fair trial must be fully respected.
