Under What Conditions Insurance Companies Can Sue the Municipality

The executive director of the Bureau of Auto Insurers believes that if the uncleaned condition of the road is clearly documented as a cause, then the insurance company can legally demand compensation from the municipality or other relevant authorities. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia.

“The insurance system cannot be a disaster for Yerevan, while the absence of the system could lead to a disastrous situation,” stated Vahe Geghazaryan, executive director of the Bureau of Auto Insurers, in an interview with the media.

Today, during a procedural council meeting, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan spoke about the chaos created in Yerevan due to the heavy snow that fell on February 20, noting that the issue lies in the logic of the operation of the insurance system, which led to drivers waiting for hours and creating kilometer-long queues due to a slight ‘bumping’ into each other.

However, the executive director of the Bureau of Auto Insurers disagrees with this view. He emphasizes that any observation must be based on sufficient baseline data and analysis, and he is confident that no one has managed to conduct such an analysis. He suggests that instead of focusing on the consequences, more attention should be paid to addressing the causes. He points out that the cause of incidents may not be the insurance system itself, but rather uncleaned or poorly cleaned roads, or the lack of winter tires.
