BBC Closes Its Office in Baku
The British broadcasting corporation BBC has announced its decision to close its office in Azerbaijan. According to the website of BBC's Azerbaijani service, the 'forced decision to close the office in the country' was made after receiving a verbal order from the Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is emphasized that the corporation did not receive any written notification from the Azerbaijani government regarding the cessation of the activities of BBC's Azerbaijani service.
It is also noted that BBC has suspended the work of its journalistic team in Baku until the situation is clarified, but will continue to disseminate news in the Azerbaijani language.
The BBC Azerbaijani service has been operating in the country since 1994.
