Armenian Church and Land for Sale in Turkey

The land of an Armenian church in the Halfeti district of Turkey's Şanlıurfa province (historically known as Urfa) has been put up for sale. This announcement was posted on a real estate agency's website on February 5, 2025, stating that the land occupied by the "Armenian church and the priest's house" is being sold for 2,810,000 liras (approximately $77,500). This information was reported by ermenihaber.am.

The site noted that the area of the church is 904 square meters and there is an ownership certificate for the building. A Turkish citizen living near the Armenian church mentioned that Armenians used to live there, and there used to be an Armenian church and a priest's house in the village. According to him, the Armenians left the village about 120 years ago, and since then, part of the church has been converted into a mosque.

Before the February 2023 earthquake, the owner lived there, but recently, there have been reports that he wants to sell the property. The walls of the church and house had decorative patterns, which unfortunately collapsed due to the earthquake.
