Ukraine Could Automatically Join NATO Under Certain Conditions, The Guardian
Ukraine could automatically join NATO if Russia violates the ceasefire following the resolution of the conflict. This was reported by the British newspaper The Guardian.
According to the media outlet, several American senators are drafting a plan linking Ukraine's NATO membership to the situation at the Russian-Ukrainian border. It is noted that the idea of Kyiv automatically joining the alliance in the event of a ceasefire violation by Russia has been supported by some European leaders, including Finnish President Alexander Stub.
This proposal is expected to be discussed at a meeting of major European state leaders scheduled for February 17 in Paris.
On February 12, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized during the latest meeting of the Western contact group in Brussels that Ukraine's return to its 2014 borders is an unrealistic goal, effectively ruling out the possibility of the country being admitted to NATO. Later, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Hegseth’s remarks accurately reflect Washington's position.
