It is foolish to repeat the same mistake multiple times: Iranian ambassador

It has been proven that such a policy always has the opposite effect, and the United States has failed in this regard. This was stated by Iran's ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sabhanian, during a press conference, addressing the executive order signed by newly elected President Donald Trump that tightens economic and political pressure on Iran.

“If they adopt a policy of maximum pressure, we will also adopt a policy of maximum resistance. We are closely monitoring the policies adopted by the newly elected US government, so we are very alert on this issue. It is foolish to repeat the same mistake multiple times and assume that it can yield different results each time. You know that the harshest sanctions have been applied to Iran's nuclear and missile industries, but we have made significant achievements in those areas,” he said.

When asked how this policy could affect Armenian-Iranian relations, given that a strategic cooperation agreement was recently signed between Armenia and the USA, the ambassador noted: “The document signed between Armenia and the USA is weaker than the agreement signed during the previous administrations. We have always succeeded in keeping the Iran-Armenia relations insulated from the maximum pressures applied by the USA. I consider it very important to emphasize that there is mutual understanding and perception between our authorities in this matter, and we deeply recognize that our relations are realized for the benefit of our countries and peoples. This mutual understanding allows us to manage developments. As for the Armenia-US strategic agreement, the Armenian authorities have clearly told us that this document does not contradict Armenia-Iran relations, and they have emphasized that they will not undertake any actions that would harm Iran's interests. The relations between Armenia and Iran have developed independently and are not influenced by other countries,” he added.
