Venezuela on the Fate of Illegal Immigrants Deported from the U.S.
The Venezuelan authorities are expected to allow the U.S. to return illegal immigrants deported from the U.S. directly to Venezuela. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing its sources.
According to agency sources, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro agreed to permit certain flights during a meeting with U.S. President's Special Envoy Richard Grenell.
The U.S. Special Envoy for Latin American Affairs, Mauricio Claver-Carone, had earlier announced that Grenell would demand that the Venezuelan leadership accept illegal immigrants deported from the U.S., as well as raise the issue of freeing Americans held in detention.
Earlier, the U.S. Border Security Coordinator Tom Homan reported that during the first week of Donald Trump's presidency, more than 4,000 immigrants were deported from the U.S.
During former President Joe Biden’s term, a record level of illegal immigration was recorded at the southern border of the U.S. According to official statistics from U.S. border authorities, over 8 million migrants have crossed the U.S. border without documentation since January 2021.
On the day of his inauguration, January 20, Trump promised in his first speech as the 47th president of the U.S. to immediately halt the entry of illegal immigrants into the American territory and commence the process of deporting millions of migrants. He also declared a national emergency regarding the situation at the U.S. southern border.
