Poland's President Calls for Dismantling of Nord Stream

Poland's President Andrzej Duda has stated that Russian gas supplies to Europe cannot be restored even if Moscow and Kyiv reach a peace agreement. He emphasized that the Nord Stream pipelines, which have been out of operation since 2022, "should be dismantled," according to Kommersant.ru.

"I can only hope that European leaders will learn their lessons... and decide to never resume gas flow through these pipelines. The Nord Streams should be dismantled; they pose a significant threat to Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, and other Central European countries," Duda said in an interview with the BBC.

Additionally, the Polish President noted that the potential resumption of gas supplies through Nord Stream would create both energy and economic risks. He believes it would signify "Russian dominance over Europe in an economic sense."

Earlier in January, a candidate for Chancellor from the far-right AfD party in Germany announced that if victorious in the elections, Germany would resume operations of the Nord Stream pipeline. David Kurten, leader of the British Heritage party, made a similar call.
