Sharp Decline in Tourist Arrivals in Armenia: What is the Reason?
In December 2024, approximately 134,000 tourists visited Armenia. Overall, the number of tourists arriving in Armenia for the year 2024 reached about 2.215 million, which is a decrease of nearly 7% compared to the figures of 2023, as reported by ArmLur.
The head of the Tourism Committee, Lusine Gevorgyan, spoke with Armenpress about plans for 2025, noting that it is expected that by the end of 2024, the number of tourists visiting Armenia will exceed 2 million, which is slightly lower compared to last year, as 2.3 million tourists had arrived by December 31, 2023. The observed decline in tourist arrivals seems to confirm this assessment.
The decrease in tourist numbers is primarily attributed to a decline in visitors from Russia, while increases have been noted from India, UAE, France, Georgia, Iran, China, and South Korea.
It is also noteworthy that the growth in Armenia's permanent population is linked to the acquisition of citizenship by individuals from these same nations, totaling nearly 53,000 people.
