Alen Simonyan Believes Azerbaijan Will Start War for Saying 'Artsakh'

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that even after the surrender of Artsakh, it remains a bone in the throat for the authorities. The authorities fear a war due to their own verbal missteps.

National Assembly President Alen Simonyan believes that Azerbaijan may provoke a new war over the word 'Artsakh'. He made this statement during a briefing with journalists yesterday.

“When I say Nagorno-Karabakh, you say, ‘You are not saying Artsakh.’ Take the opposite scenario where in Azerbaijan they say ‘Western Azerbaijan,’ and we say ‘that is a territorial claim against us.’ This is the issue; this is the major problem that forces us to make precise formulations in terms of our vocabulary so as not to provoke a new war or new aggression,” he said during the press conference.

Simonyan emphasized that Armenia has no claims against Azerbaijan; however, Azerbaijan's territorial demands against Armenia persist. He stated this while noting that the Azerbaijani side has illegally seized 200 square kilometers of territory from Armenia.

“The Prime Minister said that Armenia ends at the Armavir region and Tavush. This is Armenia, that is the map I posted in the National Assembly; I did not post it in vain,” said the National Assembly President.

The military-political leadership of Armenia has decided that the issue of the approximately 200 square kilometers of occupied territory, which includes the height near Jermuk, should be resolved through peaceful negotiations. Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan also added at a recent press conference that this issue is being addressed by the delimitation-demarcation and border security commission.

It is worth reminding Alen Simonyan that just days ago, when Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the independent Armenian state is effectively a fascist state, it seemed that no parliamentary representative at that time mentioned the word 'Artsakh'.

Thus, it appears that the danger of being enslaved by the authorities threatens Armenians and Armenia.
