The Mayor's Spokesperson Clarifies Methods for Cashless Fare Payments
Starting January 1, cashless fare payment methods are fully operational in Yerevan's public transportation system. In an interview with "Armenpress," Hayk Kostanyan, the spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan, stated that several payment methods have been implemented, including paper single-use QR code tickets via "TelSel," through the "TelSel" mobile application, as well as personal bank cards.
Kostanyan noted that the fare package option for transitioning to a unified ticketing system will be fully functional by February 1. However, until then, citizens who frequently use public transportation and find the package option more affordable already have the opportunity to purchase a package worth 8,800 drams. Nonetheless, the 100 dram fare will remain in effect until February 1.
He further explained that benefits for certain social groups are already in place. "The website transport.yerevan.am is operational, allowing anyone, regardless of whether they belong to a privileged group or not, to simply activate their benefits online or purchase packages, linking them to their personal bank cards. Payments can also be made through the 'TelSel' app, and if none of these options are convenient, they can purchase cards for payment," the spokesperson clarified.
According to him, cashless payment devices from the "TelSel" company are installed at all metro stations for the purpose of cashless payments, and anyone can purchase the payment cards and use them for transactions. Kostanyan observed that as of now, there have been no major disruptions with the existing cashless payment systems. "There may be some occasional issues, so we ask that in case of any such problems, citizens inform the city hall so that we can resolve these issues promptly," the mayor's spokesperson summarized.
