Nearly Half of Earth's 8 Billion Inhabitants Live in Different Years

It appears that nearly half of the 8 billion inhabitants of the Earth live in different years. This is reported by Armenpress.

In India, which has a population of approximately 1.4 billion, many regions calculate the years based on the Vikram Samvat calendar, which currently marks the year 2081. In other parts of the world, it is now 1946, as they use the Shaka calendar.

The around 1.4 billion residents of China will celebrate the Lunar-Solar calendar's start of the year 4722 on January 29.

In Ethiopia (about 116.4 million residents), the year is currently 2017. The Ethiopian calendar lags about 7-8 years behind the Gregorian calendar and consists of 13 months—12 with 30 days and one with 5 or 6 days.

Thailand (approximately 66.1 million residents) has entered the year 2568. The year count in the Buddhist calendar is based on the moment of Buddha's entering nirvana (543 BC).

According to the Jewish calendar used in Israel (about 9.8 million residents), it is now the year 5785. The chronology is based on the estimated creation date of the world.

In Iran and Afghanistan (approximately 124 million residents combined), it is currently the year 1403. The year count in these countries is based on the presumed date of the Prophet Muhammad's migration from Mecca to Medina, with the new year announced on the spring equinox on March 21.

In Islamic calendar-using countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Tunisia, the UAE, and Yemen (totaling about 615.4 million residents), the year is 1446. These countries also calculate years from the Prophet Muhammad's migration, but unlike Iran and Afghanistan, they use a lunar calendar, which has 354 or 355 days in a year.

Japan (123.9 million residents) uses the Gregorian calendar but also applies a chronology based on the eras of emperors. According to this system, it is currently the 6th year of the Reiwa era, starting from Emperor Naruhito's ascension in 2019.

In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (26.2 million residents), the year counting is calculated from the birth date of the long-standing communist leader Kim Il-sung, born on April 15, 1912. Thus, it is now the year 113 in North Korea.

Myanmar (55.7 million residents) follows the Burmese calendar, which currently marks the year 1384.

In Bangladesh (173.5 million residents), the Bengali calendar is used, indicating the current year as 1430.

According to the ancient Armenian calendar, which marks the start of the new year on Navasard 1 or the Julian calendar on August 11, the year is now 4517.
