Blogger Who Captured Crash Site of Downed Aircraft Arrested: Details

A blogger, Azamat Sarsenbayev, who filmed the site of the crash of an Azerbaijani aircraft in Kazakhstan, has been arrested for 10 days. The blogger reported this on his Facebook page.

Kazakhstan accuses the blogger of failing to comply with a lawful demand from law enforcement. The police have stated that the man “launched a drone at the scene, creating obstacles for rescue services and investigative actions,” and also “did not fulfill the legal demands of police officers.”

The blogger noted that his footage had been utilized by major news outlets including Reuters, The Guardian, BBC, and Le Monde.

It is recalled that on December 25, the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 aircraft, which was on a flight from Baku to Grozny, crashed and caught fire near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. The aircraft had 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board. According to Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General's Office, 32 individuals survived the incident.
