Details on the Tragic Terror Attack at the Magdeburg Christmas Market

The attacker entered the Magdeburg Christmas market in Germany using a roadway designated for emergency service vehicles, according to Tom-Oliver Langans, the director of the Magdeburg police, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“He drove slowly toward the pedestrian crossing and then used the emergency entrance to reach the old market,” Langans said during a press conference broadcasted on Spiegel's YouTube channel.

According to Ronn Krug, the head of public order maintenance in Magdeburg, the entrance was not secured with barriers or bollards, allowing emergency services to use it without obstruction. The official noted that the road was monitored by mobile police units.

“We were faced with an attack that, in my opinion, no organizer could have prevented,” he emphasized.

On Friday evening, the vehicle plowed into a crowd of people gathered at the Magdeburg Christmas market. Officially, five people were killed in the attack, and more than 200 were injured.
