Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Salvini Acquitted in Migrant Case
The Palermo court has acquitted Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, the leader of the 'League' party, in connection with the alleged illegal detention of migrants. This was reported by the newspaper La Repubblica.
The case relates to a decision he made in 2019 when he was Minister of the Interior, prohibiting ships carrying rescued migrants from entering Italian ports. Specifically, it concerns the Open Arms ship, which was carrying nearly 150 migrants.
The court found that there was 'no' alleged detention.
