HRAH and BTA Discuss Possible Blockage of Russian Channels

Today, information circulated in the media indicating that starting from January 1, the process of suspending the broadcasting of Russian television channels in Armenia will begin. "Our sources close to the ruling party report that the government of Prime Minister Pashinyan seems to have made a final decision on this matter, which is to completely deprive Russian television channels of their broadcasting rights in Armenia. According to our source, the process will begin in January. Incidentally, there are reports that the authorities are trying to find legal 'loopholes' and options to limit the broadcasting of 'out-multiplexed' Russian channels, especially so-called 'information-political' channels," reported the newspaper 'Pasts'.

To obtain clarification regarding the situation, Auroranews contacted the Council on Television and Radio, where they informed us that they do not have such information. 'We cannot confirm or deny that information,' said the HRAH.

Auroranews also reached out to the Ministry of High-Tech Industry, where they stated the following: 'We cannot comment on that information. If a written inquiry is submitted, we will try to respond within a short timeframe.' Auroranews will send a written inquiry to the BTA regarding obtaining concrete information about the suspension of the broadcasting of Russian television channels.
