The Team Was Not Perfectly Prepared for This Championship: Giloian
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Karen Giloian, stated in a conversation with journalists that the last time Simon became the world champion was in 2019, and he was present there as well. Judging by the fact that the national team is not in its best form, there were concerns that things might not go well.
“The team was not perfectly prepared for this championship, which was evidenced by the zeros and injuries. The course of events also showed that the competition would be very strong, especially with the flood of records from Iraq's young representatives causing concerns, along with the participation of two strong athletes from Iran,” he noted.
“Varazdat’s second attempt slightly rattled hearts, the pulse quickened, but in the next attempt, he proved he is the strongest in the world. For the first time in history, we have a world champion in the super heavyweight category in weightlifting. Congratulations to all of us; it was a great conclusion to the year,” said the Deputy Minister.
“There are girls coming in who will have a very serious say. And Alexandra is clearly a leader. It’s great that at such a young age she has already made her mark. God willing, she stays free from injuries, progressing steadily. Ultimately, the Olympics are what matter; the four-year cycle ends with the Olympic Games, and we now need to approach that without rushing and risking losing 2-3 medals by making hasty decisions. We need to move forward calmly, without haste, and without panic, and then celebrate great and important victories,” added Karen Giloian.
“It was an indescribable feeling since we hadn't had a medal at the World Championships since 2019, and it made everyone happy, not just me. I hope this will be the beginning of my successes, and we will be able to improve our results,” said bronze medalist Alexandra Grigoryan, who won the bronze medal at the World Championship at just 19 years old.
