Another MP Exits from the CP Group

MP Hakob Aslanyan has announced his decision to suspend cooperation with the Civil Contract (CP) party and exit the faction. He made this statement during an appearance on Factor TV.

The MP explained that he will be suspending his participation in the CP faction for one month due to the situation surrounding Hovik Ghazaryan. According to him, this month is necessary for investigating the incident involving Ghazaryan, and a decision regarding leaving the faction and relinquishing his mandate will be made later.

It is noteworthy that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on November 22 during a public television broadcast that he had asked MPs Narek Zeynalanyan and Hovik Ghazaryan to resign from their mandates. MP Narek Zeynalanyan resigned from his mandate on November 19. Ghazaryan, however, announced that he would not be resigning.

The CP expelled him from the party on December 3, and on December 4 during an Assembly session, Ghazaryan declared that he was also leaving the “Civil Contract” faction.

Numerous materials and messages from Ghazaryan's phone, which are part of a criminal investigation, ended up with the Prime Minister, despite assurances from law enforcement that they would only review materials relevant to the case. Ghazaryan is accused within the CP of leaking confidential information.

The publication regarding Ghazaryan's organization of leaks containing state secrets was forwarded by the prosecutor's office to the Anti-Corruption Committee. Ghazaryan’s lawyer has also requested the prosecutor’s office to initiate legal proceedings to understand how his personal data was leaked to others from the Anti-Corruption Committee.
