Iran Predicts a 'Gloomy Future' for Syria
The conflict between Turkey-aligned groups and Syrian Kurds, along with the involvement of Turkey and Israel in Syrian affairs and the rising threat of terrorism, could lead to serious destabilization in the Arab republic following the opposition's takeover of Damascus. This is reported by the Iranian newspaper Vatan-e Emrooz in an article.
According to the publication, 'Syria can expect to face a future similar to that of Libya at best. However, the presence of various international players and military groups with differing, sometimes opposing approaches, along with vast stockpiles of weapons in the hands of numerous ethnic and religious groups, will inevitably lead to a significantly gloomier fate in Syria than that of Libya.'
The newspaper notes that Israel's invasion of the buffer zone along the Syrian border, following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime and the withdrawal of the Syrian army from these areas, indicates that 'Israel will not merely observe the situation but will seek to secure its own safety.'
