10 Million Dollar Reward for Information on Assad's Whereabouts
The opposition in Syria has announced a $10 million reward for information regarding Bashar Assad's whereabouts. Earlier, Reuters reported that Assad had ‘most likely’ died in a plane crash while attempting to flee Damascus in a cargo plane. The aircraft took off from the capital's airport heading in an unknown direction, only to change course abruptly and disappear from radar.
The Assad family has ruled Syria for 50 years, with Bashar Assad at the helm for 24 of those years. Meanwhile, people across the country are demolishing statues of the former president's father, while residents of Damascus are removing various items from the presidential palace. The government district of Damascus has been subjected to mass looting following the militants opening the doors of the presidential residence and nearby buildings. The Iranian embassy building has also been vandalized, with dozens of people storming in and starting to break furniture.
