Tourist Arrivals in Armenia in Recent Months

During the period from January to October 2024, the total number of tourist visits to Armenia has reached approximately 1,926,405, marking a 5.8 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. This information was shared by Armenia's Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan.

On December 6, he participated in the annual summarizing event of the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy, where trends in the development of the tourism sector in Armenia, key indicators, and legislative reforms were presented.

"Tourism is an important sector not only because it contributes to economic development, job creation, and attracting new investments, but it also provides an opportunity to represent our country to an external audience and position it at a high level. In 2025, we plan to implement numerous projects, for which we will increase budgetary allocations if necessary. We are ready to support the development of the business environment in Armenia through various programs," stated Papoyan.

The minister expressed confidence that cooperation with the World Bank will proceed successfully, and the TRIP program, which aims to attract up to $100 million in investments in tourism, will also commence. This program is expected to significantly change Armenia's tourism landscape, making it more competitive and attractive.

During the event, the Chairwoman of the Tourism Committee, Lusine Gevorgyan, presented the sector's achievements for 2024 and plans for 2025. Statistical data on tourist arrivals was discussed, indicating stable development and progress in the sector.

From January to October 2024, the total number of tourist visits amounted to approximately 1,926,405, which shows a 5.8% decrease compared to 2,045,282 during the same period in 2023, but a 15% increase compared to 1,675,292 in 2019. Armenia has also received several international awards in 2024.

The Italian Association of Travel Journalists awarded Vayots Dzor the Best Foreign Food and Wine Destination award. In 2024, a draft law on tourism was adopted for the regulation of the sector. More than 90 foreign journalists were organized for a familiarization trip to Armenia, resulting in over 500 articles published in the foreign press. Armenia's tourism and investment guide has been developed.

The event concluded with discussions on new opportunities for the development of the tourism sector.
