Proposed Fees for Obtaining and Renouncing Armenian Citizenship
The government has submitted to the National Assembly a bill aimed at increasing the state fees for obtaining and renouncing Armenian citizenship.
Armen Ghazaryan, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, presented a package of draft laws amending the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and the Law on State Duties during a session of the Assembly.
“We propose to set the state duty for granting citizenship at 50,000 drams instead of the current 1,000 drams, while the fee for renunciation would rise to 150,000 drams from the existing 25,000 drams,” Ghazaryan announced.
The Deputy Minister noted that the proposal takes into account not only international practices but also the inflation that has occurred over the years and changes in the costs of providing this service.
