Route Changes in Yerevan
An initiative to manage the operation of newly imported trolleybuses in the capital has led to a draft decision from the mayor of Yerevan, proposing the closure of routes 2A and 10A. The head of the Transport Department of the Yerevan Municipality, Vazgen Harutyunyan, reported this during an operational council meeting.
It was noted that the previously operational route 2A will now operate under route 2, extending its path to Nubarashen. This route will be serviced by newly imported "Jongtong" brand trolleybuses, and the number of vehicles on this route will increase by 5 units to a total of 13, reducing the wait time from 21 minutes to 15 minutes.
Additionally, the former route 10A will be serviced by "Yutong" brand trolleybuses under route 10. The number of vehicles will also increase by 6 units to a total of 13, which will reduce the waiting interval from 21 minutes to 11 minutes.
Furthermore, the number of vehicles for route 1 will increase by 2 to a total of 10, reducing the waiting interval from 18 minutes to 14 minutes. Similarly, route 9 will also see an increase of 2 units, bringing its total to 10 and reducing the wait time from 18 minutes to 14 minutes. Route 15 will have its fleet increased by 2 to a total of 7, thereby reducing the wait from 18 minutes to 13 minutes.
These changes are expected to directly enhance the quality of service, as mentioned in the report. Harutyunyan also informed that the customs clearance of imported buses is in its final stages, and a government decision will be made soon, allowing the operation to commence within the established timeframe.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan commented that next year, the issue of a management center project is also on the agenda, and assistance from partners at the Los Angeles Department of Transportation will be necessary in this matter. Avinyan believes that Yerevan residents have a slightly flawed understanding of the transportation flow management center, and he decided to clarify the matter.
"The transportation flow management center is not only for managing public transport in Yerevan but is also intended for the management of all transportation means throughout the city, drawing on successful experiences from Los Angeles. Our transportation system differs significantly and will also differ in technology, as we will utilize cameras and GPS systems, but our partners can assist us with management algorithms. I will request the Mayor of Los Angeles to share their expertise with us," said Tigran Avinyan.
