This is yet another blatant provocative step: Zakharova
In Poland, the opening of a US missile defense base leads to an increase in the level of nuclear danger, and this is a provocative step by Washington. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing.
“This is yet another blatant provocative step among a series of deeply destabilizing actions by the Americans and their NATO allies in the strategic domain. It objectively leads to the disruption of strategic stability, alongside other harmful measures of military-political and military-technical nature, aimed at projecting American power thousands of kilometers away from US national territory, to exert pressure on Russia and some other nuclear powers. This, of course, leads to an increase in strategic risks and, as a consequence, an overall rise in the level of nuclear danger,” she said.
According to Zakharova, the mentioned American-NATO longevity, which has nearly lasted a decade with complete disregard for Russia's security concerns, has been the focal point of Russia's attention in terms of preparing compensatory countermeasures over the years. “Considering the nature of the threat levels emanating from Western military facilities, the missile defense base in Poland has long been listed among potential priority targets for strikes, which can be ensured if necessary with a wide spectrum of cutting-edge weaponry,” the diplomat added.
