EU Fulfilled Its Promise with 8.5 Months Delay

The head of the EU's diplomatic service, Josep Borrell, who will retire on December 1, stated that the EU has "just fulfilled" its promise to supply Ukraine with 1 million shells over the course of a year, a commitment made by Brussels in February 2023. This was reported by TASS.

“We have just fulfilled our promise to supply 1 million shells to Ukraine, and by the end of winter, we will complete the training of 75,000 soldiers,” Borrell said. Previously, he had reported that by early October, EU countries had trained 60,000 personnel for the Ukrainian armed forces.

Borrell and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised Kyiv in February 2023 to deliver 1 million shells within 12 months, that is, by early March 2024. Thus, the delay amounted to approximately 8.5 months. To achieve this, the EU not only used its stockpiles of shells but also intensified their production across all EU countries and purchased shells worldwide.
