We Have Signed the First Legal Document Between Armenia and Azerbaijan: Mirzoyan
The priority is the regulation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during the discussion of the 2025 state budget in the National Assembly.
“This year we have made significant progress. We have signed the first international legal document that has ever existed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the agreement. This is the regulation that governs the joint activities of the two commissions dealing with border delimitation, which has been enacted by the National Assembly, ratified, passed the relevant domestic procedures in Azerbaijan, and has come into force.
We hope that in addition to the fact that we have already delimited more than 12 kilometers of the border (12.7 kilometers, if I'm not mistaken), a possibility for peaceful life and activity has been created on both sides of the border. We hope that the remaining part of our common border will also be delimited as quickly as possible, and we will consider this issue resolved,” he said.
Regarding the process of signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan noted that there are still 1-2 formulations and articles around which work is ongoing.
“Work on these is ongoing more intensively than in the previous phase, I would say in a more cooperative, more constructive atmosphere, and again (as one of the deputies noted last time) I would like to express cautious optimism that we will have a final agreed text of the peace treaty,” the minister stated.
