Mirzoyan Responds to Hajiyev's Statement
No official from Armenia has submitted an application to participate in the COP 29 conference being held in Baku, nor have they registered. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly.
"I do not rule out that some organizations from civil society may have done something like that, although I have no information about it. If that is what they mean, then Armenia is a free, democratic country, and the Armenian government has neither the desire nor the means to direct or control civil society organizations," he emphasized.
It should be noted that Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, stated that Armenia had registered for the COP-29 climate summit in Baku, but the Armenian delegation is not present at the event.
The COP-29 summit of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is taking place in Baku from November 11 to 24.
In December 2023, as a goodwill gesture, Armenia expressed its support for Azerbaijan's application to host the summit and withdrew its candidacy, while Azerbaijan expressed its support for Armenia's candidacy to join the Bureau of COP from the Eastern European group.
