Explosion at Pakistan Railway Station Leaves Casualties

An explosion at a railway station in Quetta, located in southwestern Pakistan, has resulted in at least 24 fatalities and over 40 injuries, according to a report by Reuters citing local police.

Initial reports suggest that a suicide bomber detonated a device inside the railway station as a train headed for Peshawar was preparing to depart. Among the deceased are 16 soldiers, and many of the injured are in critical condition.

The responsibility for the attack has been claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist militant group. The BLA is fighting for the independence of Balochistan, a province with a population of around 15 million, bordering Afghanistan to the north and Iran to the west. The organization opposes the government in relation to the exploitation of the region's rich gas and mineral resources.
