Parliamentary Elections in Georgia: What to Expect
The parliamentary elections in Georgia will take place on October 26. The ruling "Georgian Dream" party and its main opposition rivals are calling the upcoming vote a national referendum, in which voters will determine the political course of Georgia, as reported by Meduza.
The elections for the 150-seat parliament will be held using a proportional representation system, rather than the mixed system used previously. This means that the percentage of votes received by a specific party will correspond to the number of seats they hold in parliament. To qualify for parliament, parties must secure at least five percent of the total votes. If no political force manages to obtain a majority, parties will have to form a coalition government.
Businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili's "Georgian Dream," which has been in power for 12 years, is urging voters to choose between peace and war, alleging that the opposition is drawing the country into conflict.
