VIDEO: The Azerbaijani Triangle is Under Our Control - Alen Simonian
It is natural that if the border is not demarcated, it is clear that at some places you may advance a bit, and at others I may be ahead. This was mentioned by the President of the National Assembly Alen Simonian in a conversation with reporters today, October 23, in response to a question about whether his statement made yesterday, suggesting that there are areas where the Armenian side is ahead, poses a danger as it could provide the Azerbaijanis with an argument that Armenians themselves admit that they are on Azerbaijani territory in some areas.
“At least in Tavush, there are 2 triangles where their triangle is under our control, while ours is in their part. This is no secret to anyone. What I am saying is that in all areas where they are ahead, they should step back, and in all areas where we are ahead, we should step back. What is ours is ours, and what is theirs is theirs,” the speaker noted, adding that he does not have detailed information on the situation in specific areas.
Regarding his characterization of the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the territory of the Republic of Armenia as a “minor issue” and noting that they have not discussed it with Azerbaijan, Simonian stated: “The main goal is to establish peace, document our 39,743 square kilometers, and delineate the border. I do not consider this a minor issue; I am saying that in the global picture we have to address global issues. There are very important matters that are not included in the peace treaty. You can never include all issues. None of these can be considered minor, but today the main goal is to restore the border and conclude a peace treaty. After that, our citizens will engage in trade with our neighbors, make mutual visits, and all issues will be resolved.”
