France Proposes Deployment of 'Non-Nuclear Forces' in Ukraine

French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu has stated that it is necessary to discuss the deployment of "non-nuclear deterrent forces" in Ukraine to ensure guarantees for maintaining a ceasefire after the establishment of peace.

According to Lecornu, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's "victory plan" contains "a number of interesting points." He noted, "This 'victory plan' is the beginning of a political path. We need to think about what comes next. Imagine a ceasefire or a peace treaty. You will realize that the question of deploying non-nuclear deterrent forces in Ukrainian territory, in order to repel new threats from Russia, is evidently an issue that needs to be addressed now," Lecornu said during an interview on LCI.

The plan proposed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy consists of five points and three additional "secret additions." Among the published points are an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO before the conflict with Russia, the lifting of restrictions on the use of long-range weapons, and the deployment of a "non-nuclear strategic complex package" within the country.
