Trump Could Become President Even If He Loses, Politico Reports
If Donald Trump loses the U.S. presidential election, he could still assume the office. This was reported by Politico, citing constitutional law experts and party officials, according to RBC.
They recalled the 12th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which transfers the right to elect a president to the House of Representatives (controlled by Republicans), but only if none of the candidates receives the necessary 270 votes from the Electoral College.
Politico's sources suggested that Trump could manipulate the situation to reach such an outcome. This amendment was applied in 1824 when none of the candidates received the required number of votes. At that time, the House of Representatives elected John Adams as president, even though Andrew Jackson had received more votes.
